We want all of our students to complete their years in school well prepared for what is coming next in their lives, whether a student desires a vocational career or higher education.

Efficiency through effectiveness

My career allowed me to work closely with some really great teachers. The experience convinced me that proven programs and engaged professionals are the most cost-efficient way to gain the most educational bang for the buck.

Fiscal Responsibility

As a County Conservation Board member I worked with tax-supported budgets for seven years. As a homeowner and property tax payer I will insist on sound analysis and hard facts before voting on financial decisions.

Dress Code

I know it was controversial and appreciate the efforts of people on all sides in trying to establish a school atmosphere that promotes learning. The effectiveness and fairness of this rule will depend on how it is implemented.

No Child Left Behind

I have questions about this ten-year-old law called NCLB. I will work to see the Waterloo Community Schools help every student succeed. NCLB might have been intended to help but does it sometimes get in the way?

• Does one test tell us everything we need to know about how well kids are learning?
• Does the emphasis on testing change teaching in ways that limit educational outcomes?
• The option to transfer built into NCLB has cost our district hundreds of thousands of dollars for modular classrooms. How does it affect students at the buildings that send out or take in students?

Schools Worth Building

Communities in our District invested millions of dollars to improve and renew our school buildings. As a board member I will work to make the dreams that built these schools come true for the students who attend them, both now and for years to come!

A Positive Campaign

There is no pre-conceived agenda. I am not running against anybody or anything. I am seeking the opportunity to give back to our community based on a lifetime of local, practical experience in education and public service.
